This week I returned to Queensland to spend Christmas with my mum. But no trip away is complete without visiting a bookstore or two. I’ve been to a few since I’ve come to Brisbane but today I’ll focus on one of my faves. Earlier today I popped into one of my favourite Brisbane book stores, Avid Reader, in West End. When in search of books, search no further than West End!

Avid Reader is a fantastic independent bookshop in Brisbane. When I use to live in Queensland I always made sure to make time to visit it when I made the drive to Brisbane to check out their collection of books.
They have a great selection across almost all genres, but their crime fiction section is huge! I also love the staff picks and recommendations at Avid. Their team are really well read in a diverse set of books, and you can pick their recommended reads right off each staff members ‘shelf’. You’ll never struggle to find quality books worth reading, whether for yourself, or a friend.
If you’re looking for cool, funky bookish gifts too, then there are some seriously cute notebooks, magnetic poetry, mugs, pins and more on offer. I personally love the collection of cat related gift ideas.
From time to time there are also some amazing literary events held in store. Some of their upcoming events include talks from Alicia Wanstall-Burke, Lee Kofman and Jillian Hamilton. They also have a few book clubs. Some of the titles they’re currently reading include: Conversations with Friends and Normal People by Sally Rooney, Wych Elm by Tana French, The Overstory by Richard Powers and Lud-in-the-Mist by Hope Mirrlees.

I love this bookshop because you always end up find something you didn’t expect to find that you can’t leave without. For me that book today was Fresh & Pure by Jules Aron.
Seriously beautifully designed its a book on taking care of yourself and creating natural homemade beauty and cleansing products. It’s been something I’ve wanted to try before, but finding this little gem felt like it was meant to be. Having had a quick read of it this afternoon I’m really excited to give a few of the natural beauty products a go!
