Sometimes you just want a sweet and frothy romance, rich in detail with wonderfully crafted characters, and Louise Allen delivered in His Convenient Duchess. I had the most wonderful time reading this novel, at times laughing out loud, cringing at Marcus, cheering on Rose.
BLURB:
‘You are a lady of breeding…and would make an excellent Duchess…’
Not the most romantic of proposals, but Marcus Cranford knows it will be accepted for Lady Rose Trafford desperately needs a convenient husband to protect her and her beloved younger sisters. It also saves the new duke from the horror of a London season! Rose is courageous, hard-working, often exasperating…but what Marcus doesn’t expect is this new spark of lust. And the hope she’s feeling it too…
REVIEW:
Who doesn’t love the trope of “I love her, but I can’t tell her, not yet” trope, because I certainly do. This book plays into all the things I love in this genre. But I appreciate that Rose is no push over despite the limitations on women in her time. She’s a great heroine to fall in love with and cheer on as she dares to put her heart on the line for Marcus. Even the element of danger for Rose’s sister adds to the drama whilst still keeping the book a wonderful cosy read for cold afternoon. As far as historical romances go this one is a winner, I throughly enjoyed His Convenient Duchess, and will look to read more by Louise Allen in the future.
