I love a book haul, being able to head to a bookshop, or order some books online and come home to unbox them all. It’s like Christmas! I recently picked up a number of books to add to my shelves. There’s a bit of non fiction, fantasy, literary fiction, romance, spooky reads, cosy reads. Something for everyone I think. So let’s get into the recent additions to my personal library.
Tom Lake – Signed Special Edition
This edition is stunning, it’s the Dymocks/Indies exclusive and it is the perfect treatment for this novel. Ann Patchett is an incredible writer, so this is a fun addition to my special edition collection.
Welcome to Hyunam-Dong Bookshop
This book comes out in November from Bloomsbury. I am so excited to read this one. It’s a cosy Korean novel about a woman who quits her job to follow her dream of opening a bookshop in Seoul, and the cast of characters you meet along the way that interact with the bookshop.
The Unfortunate Side-Effects of Heartbreak and Magic – Signed Bookplate
This is a book that has been all over TikTok. I have already dipped into this one as I have the proof, and now that I’ve got a finished copy I am keen to keep reading the final version. It’s a fun cosy novel on love and heartbreak with a mix of magic in the vein of Practical Magic meet Gilmore Girls.
Extasia
I picked up this lovely hardback edition on a sale table at Abbey’s Bookshop/Galaxy Bookshop in Sydney’s CBD. It sounds very creepy (especially with that cover) and given its spooky season it seemed appropriate to pick up a Halloween read.
Assistant to the Villain
Another TikTok Book, I really enjoy Hannah’s content, and when she wrote a book I knew I wanted to read it. Then my colleague also recommended I read it, as she thought it was right up my alley, so I ordered a copy and have added it to the TBR pile.
The Last Dragon King & The Broken Elf King
These two were a prize I won in the Dymocks TikTok Giveaway. They are fantasy romance novels, with the latest book in the series just released. It sounds really fun and I had been eyeing these off for a while. Expect a review to reach the blog once I get through these two.
Burnout
I’ve been trying to incorporate more non-fiction reads into my reading list. I use to work for A&U when they published this one and it sounded like a fascinating read. It might be a few years old, but with all the media on burnout, and my own struggles with it sometimes, I figured this might be a beneficial read.
Before We Say Goodbye
The latest book in the Before the Coffee Gets Cold series I was so excited to get my hands on a copy I accidentally went to Dymocks on the wrong day, a day early before publication…my mistake. I love these books. They are so comforting, offering insights into what it means to be human, to love and to experience loss. They are just gorgeous, and being so short, quicks reads when I don’t have a lot of reading time available.
So that is my recent book haul in September/October, quite the mix of books. Let me know if you’ve read any of these or if you’re planning to add them to your TBR pile.
Happy Reading.
