Welcome to another update on editing #ProjectMistbound. In October I finished editing chapters 1 to 10, part one of my fantasy romance novel, codename #ProjectMistbound. I’ll be honest with you, I do have a name for this novel…but I’m still not settled on it, so the codename remains! The last week or two have been super busy with family and friends visiting, various events and work so I haven’t had the chance to work on my novel again until this Sunday. It was pouring! The weather was so miserable it’s just perfect for sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, laptop on my lap.

So what did I work on this session?
My goal was to work on 4 chapters since I had no other plans for the day. But whilst I had the best intentions of editing 4 chapters, I only managed 2 due to the heavy re-writes I need to undertake to address plot changes I’d made in earlier chapters. Even so I kicked it off with about three hours work on chapter 11 from about 11am to 1pm. Chapter 11 kicks off part two of the book where things shift from Astrid’s arrival in the world of the fae, to learning how to survive (and hopefully thrive) there as she makes new friends and establishes a new routine at The Academy. I had forgotten how much a detail I’d changed in earlier chapters now required heavy re-writes in this chapter, hence why it took three hours. While the bones of the original chapter remained, entire conversations and behaviours of the characters were revised and changed.
I look a break for the rest of the afternoon before picking up my laptop again after dinner for a night writing session. My fellow author and friend Maree’s Books joined me for some writing sprints. We kept each other motivated through messaging each other as we worked on our respective novels. It is super useful to have someone to bounce questions off who understands the writing process and the specific project you’re working on. During this evening session I worked on chapter 12, one of my favourite scenes, the blue moon festival masquerade ball! It’s a pivotal scene for my MCs, and again required significant re-writes due to plot changes in part 1 of the book. But it was so much fun adding in little easter eggs, new foreshadowing and the fun details I can’t wait for readers to find.
What was I listening to this session?
It’s quickly becoming my default to listen to some sort of audio or music during these editing/writing sessions. Here are all the Youtube Videos I listened to during my writing sessions.
