2024 Young Adult Novels Sneak Peaks!
An unforgettable YA regency-inspired romantic fantasy about a seamstress who is sent to dress the prince for his royal wedding – and the scandal she weaves in her wake.
All Niamh has longed for is to be remembered: to create something that will last far longer than she will. For her, that means becoming a renowned dressmaker, using the magic in her blood that lets her stitch emotions and memories into fabric – the same magic that will eventually kill her.
When Niamh is commissioned to design the prince’s wardrobe for a royal wedding in Avaland, she knows she finally has her chance to leave her legacy. But Avaland is far from the fairytale that she imagined. While nobles and the elite attend extravagant balls and candlelit garden parties, unrest brews amid the working class.
Niamh finds herself drawn to Kit, the prince whom she must dress for his wedding, despite his cold, prickly demeanour. And soon, a gossip column reports on their undeniable chemistry between them, threatening scandal. Niamh must decide if reputation should come above all else, whether her magic curse will allow her to experience love, and what cost she is willing to pay for a future she never thought possible…
Threaded with intrigue and unforgettable characters, A Fragile Enchantment is a sweeping romance for the ages.
Personal Note: This sounded so good when they spoke about this title. I love a regency romance setting, so this one ticks so many boxes for me.
Whip-smart and immersive, this Jamaican-inspired fantasy follows a gods-blessed heroine who’s forced to choose between saving her sister or protecting her homeland.
Faron Vincent can channel the power of the gods. Five years ago, she used her divine magic to liberate her island from its enemies, the dragon-riding Langley Empire. But now, at seventeen, Faron is all powered up with no wars to fight. She’s a legend to her people and a nuisance to her neighbours.
When she’s forced to attend an international peace summit, Faron expects that she will perform tricks like a trained pet and then go home. She doesn’t expect her older sister, Elara, forming an unprecedented bond with an enemy dragon-or the gods claiming the only way to break that bond is to kill her sister.
As Faron’s desperation to find another solution takes her down a dark path, and Elara discovers the shocking secrets at the heart of the Langley Empire, both must make difficult choices that will shape each other’s lives, as well as the fate of their world.
The final instalment in the bestselling Realm Breaker trilogy, from the author of the multimillion copy bestselling Red Queen.
A strange darkness is growing in the Ward. A man who would burn kingdoms to the ground is raising an army unlike any seen before, bent on uprooting the foundations of the world. And only Corayne – a pirate’s daughter and the last of an ancient lineage – can stop him.
Alongside an unlikely group of reluctant allies, Corayne finds herself on a desperate journey to complete an impossible task, with untold magic singing in her blood and the fate of the world on her shoulders.
Personal Note: I haven’t read this series, but now that it’s about to finish I might add this to my TBR list. I loved the Red Queen series, so this one sounds great.
Four teens. Three henchmen. Two thousand acres of remote forest. One very bad man. And a whole lot of new secrets to unearth. The unmissable, thrilling follow-up to The Girls I’ve Been (soon to be a Netflix film).
Nora O’Malley has survived . . . senior year, that is. School’s over, but her life isn’t, which is weird since last she checked, her murderous stepdad Raymond is finally free.
Determined to enjoy summer before her (possibly) imminent demise, Nora plans a backpacking trip with Iris and Wes. And Wes’s girlfriend tags along. Amanda’s nice, so it’s not a huge issue. Until she gets taken. Or rather, mis-taken . . . for Nora, that is.
Now they’re deep in the woods. Raymond has a hostage. Nora has no leverage. Iris is carving spears out of sticks. And Wes is building booby traps.
It’ll take all of them to make it out alive.
But someone is lying. Someone is keeping secrets. And someone has to die.
Sixteen-year-old Ivy accidentally brings her favourite TV character to life in this friends-to-enemies-to-lovers novel that’s filled with humour and heart, from bestselling author Sophie Gonzales.
What happens when the fictional ‘perfect guy’ comes to life and is convinced you’re his soulmate?
While her parents are away for the week, sixteen-year-old Ivy McIntosh plans on binge-watching her favourite TV show and hanging out with her best friend, Henry. But things quickly go downhill on the very first morning, when Ivy wakes up to find Weston, the gorgeous lead character of her favourite show, in her bedroom.
And, oh yeah, he thinks that she’s his soulmate.
Ivy realizes that her writing has somehow brought Weston as she’s imagined him to life, and now he’s living out her fanfiction dreams. But those fairytale dreams soon turn into disasters.
Mack, Ivy’s best-friend-turned-enemy who lives next door, and Henry get involved and the three of them need to figure out why Weston is here and how to get rid of him.
As Ivy and Mack grow closer again, old feelings resurface and they finally face the fallout of their broken friendship, and question if they’ve both secretly always wanted something more . . .
The new sapphic YA friends-to-enemies-to-lovers novel from bestselling author Sophie Gonzales, with her trademark humour and heart.
A seductively twisted romance about loyalty, fate, the lengths we go to hide the darkest parts of ourselves . . . and the people who love those parts most of all.
Wyatt Westlock has one plan for the farmhouse she’s just inherited — to burn it to the ground. But during her final walkthrough of her childhood home, she makes a shocking discovery in the basement — Peter, the boy she once considered her best friend, strung up in chains and left for dead.
Unbeknownst to Wyatt, Peter has suffered hundreds of ritualistic deaths on her family’s property. Semi-immortal, Peter never remains dead for long, but he can’t really live, either. Not while he’s bound to the farm, locked in a cycle of grisly deaths and painful rebirths. There’s only one way for him to break free. He needs to end the Westlock line.
He needs to kill Wyatt.
With Wyatt’s parents gone, the spells protecting the property have begun to unravel, and dark, ancient forces gather in the nearby forest. The only way for Wyatt to repair the wards is to work with Peter — the one person who knows how to harness her volatile magic. But how can she trust a boy who’s sworn an oath to destroy her? When the past turns up to haunt them in the most unexpected way, they are forced to rely on one another to survive, or else tear each other apart.
Personal Note: Again, this was another one that really piqued my interest. It has a great title and a great premise. Very dark!!

Testing our knowledge of YA stories!
After the book presentation the event concluded with a hilariously chaotic and fun YA quiz via Kahoot, with all 146 viewers scrambling to answer as correctly and quickly as possible for a great bookish prize pack. I was chatting via Facebook with a few friends who were also on the Zoom call, all of us trying to figure out the answers and realising we had some reading to add to our TBR piles to fill in the knowledge gaps. I sadly got the year Twilight was published very wrong…oops! It was a bit of fun and generated a few laughs.

Thanks again to Hachette and Date a Book for a fun YA showcase and for the digital goodie bag for attending. Nothing quite like getting a 300 page book of sample chapters from these books and more to dig into while we wait for these titles to release next year. I hope in sharing these, you might just find something to add your reading list in the new year.
Until next time,
