I write and release music under my name Catherine Gunther. My website for my music is www.catherinegunther.com
I love to experiment with sound, from Americana to Pop, I love to let the song choose the style that suits it best.
In the last few years, in part due to the pandemic lockdowns, I’ve been experimenting a lot with my songwriting and have shifted away from traditional instruments of my earlier releases to explore electro-pop. I’m currently working on a pop album which I’m hoping to release in early 2023.
My last release A Dangerous Game (2021) is a dark and enchanting collection of songs charting different forms of love and destruction; the damage of a toxic lover, the hurt of an unexpected ending, the loss of oneself, the betrayal of a confidant, and the strength that can be found to rise above it all. It is an Alt-Folk/Americana record, produced by Jared Adlam. All three singles, Buried Alive, Friends and Dangerous were well received, with Friends reaching #5 on the AMRAP Metro Charts.
A Dangerous Game (2021) is my third EP, following Livin’ On the Land (2015) and Bittersweet Memories (2016). All three records have recieved nationwide airplay on community radio. I’ve also performed a various music festivals including Tamworth Country Music Festival, Urban Country Music Festival and Bleach* Festival as part of the Gold Coast’s Commonwealth Games Cultural Program.
This was how Triple J’s Nkechi Anele (Roots N’ All) described my single Buried Alive (2018):
‘If this song was the weather it would be a thick dense fog – there is something hauntingly captivating and utterly frightening about this track. I’m going to sleep with my nightlight on for the rest of the year now.’
I created and designed all the cover artwork and marketing material for the release campaign of these records.
